Cisco UC Provisioning Software Comparison

Decide on a Provisioning Tool Right for You

Adding new users and devices to your company’s Cisco Collaboration UC environment can be quite complex without the right provisioning tools. Luckily, there are Cisco UC provisioning software tools on the market to help manage the tasks of making moves, adds, changes and deletes within the Cisco UC environment.

Where do you start when making the decision on which provisioning tool is for you? How do you ensure the solution you are adding is removing complexity? How will you evaluate provisioning tools software?

Cisco UC Provisioning Tool Deployment

Start evaluating with the trial.

Consider which tools allow you to try the software before your purchase the provisioning software. Chances are, if the trial and deployment of the Cisco provisioning software are difficult and time consuming, either you won’t use the tool, or will find it too cumbersome to implement. Our provisioning manager is the leading UC provisioning software is available for a free, 30-day fully supported trial.

Multiple Device Provisioning

Consider the ease in which the Cisco UC tool provisions multiple devices.

Investigate the software’s capability to simplify the steps it takes to provision a user with all of his or her devices. Akkadian Provisioning Manager  is able to provision multiple devices for a user with one single step.

Protect your Cisco Unified Communications Manager

Ensure your Cisco UC provisioning tool adds security to your Cisco Unified Communications Manager.

An added benefit of the right provisioning tool is that the process simplification allows less trained team members to handle moves, adds, changes, and deletes within the UC environment. However, you don’t want just anyone to have access to your company’s communication systems. Clusters could be disassociated; entire offices could lose all phone services in an instant. Akkadian Provisioning Manager offers roles-based permissions down to the field level.

Akkadian Labs Announces New Features for its Cisco Collaboration Software

Akkadian Labs, a leading Cisco Solutions Partner, has announced the release of Akkadian Provisioning Manager (APM) 4.8.

NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwired – October 11, 2016) – APM is the popular Cisco Collaboration software developed to simplify the complicated user/device provisioning process within the Cisco Collaboration environment. This release expands the software’s already robust provisioning capabilities of CUCM features.

“The functionality of APM continues to advance at a rapid pace,” says Tom Bamert, CTO of Akkadian Labs. “With this latest version of APM, we are incorporating new features requested by our fast-growing customer base.”

APM 4.8 introduces many great new features, including:

  • LDAP-based automated de-provisioning – automatically de-provision users based on their LDAP statuses in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) end user directory, preventing orphaned devices when users are deleted by CUCM.
  • Client matter code (CMC) and forced authorization code (FAC) support – support for adding, deleting and editing CMC & FACs in CUCM.
  • Generate MAC addresses – provides the ability to generate dummy MAC addresses to enhance APM’s self-provisioning service.
  • Email provisioning results – easily email the summary or details of APM’s provisioning actions.
  • Overwrite device option – provides the ability for APM to overwrite an existing device while provisioning.
  • Configuring Extension mobility auto-logout – during a user delete within extension mobility environments, APM will now automatically log out the user from all devices, in order to properly end CUCM extension mobility.

APM’s popularity with Cisco Collaboration administrators stems from the software’s use of templates and a single pane of glass interface to make provisioning a repeatable process. Along with the new features and provisioning enhancements, the latest APM release has several new template and user interface enhancements, such as expanded provisioning options within templates. For other features and more details, please see APM 4.8’s release notes.

APM 4.8 supports Cisco Collaboration service releases 8.x and above. Also, APM 4.8 is available for Windows servers or as a virtual Linux appliance.

Akkadian Contact Manager Case Study

Akkadian Contact Manager™ Case Study

Akkadian Contact Manager™ Helps Dentons Unify Workforce

As the way legal firms deliver services to clients, Dentons US LLP (Dentons) is leading the way in advances, harnessing new collaborative technologies. Dentons challenges the statues quo while delivering consistent and uncompromising quality to its clients. What makes Dentons so different is that it has no single headquarters and no dominant culture. Diverse in terms of geography, language and nationalities, the firm offers equally diverse clients expertise with deep experience in worldwide legal traditions.

But, this business model does create a complicated communications infrastructure. For example, a recent merger with McKenna, Long and Aldrich (MLA) presented a challenge for Dentons’ IT staff. With the merger, MLA was bringing its own company directory. How could the staff find a way to unify two distinct communications directories?

“After the merger, we were still two distinct firms, with two distinct directories; we were using two separate data sources,” explains Phil Nevins, Infrastructure and Voice Lead Engineer at Dentons.

For example, someone at a New York City legacy MLA office was unable to easily search a company phone directory for a contact at one of the legacy Dentons offices.

The Search Begins for a Directory Solution

While at a Unified Communications industry event, Dentons learned about Akkadian Labs’ software solution. After researching our mobile contact manager and a second solution, Dentons was swayed by Akkadian Labs’ responsiveness.

“Akkadian Labs responded immediately and the competitor did not,” said Nevins.

One feature that attracted Nevins is that Akkadian Contact Manager allows Dentons team members to easily search and pull information from several different directories, regardless of the office locations.

“After the implementation of Akkadian Contact Manager, we are now able to search for users within the entire enterprise,” said Nevins. “The search pulls the necessary information from various data sources, no matter which type, and then allows our internal personnel to find each other quickly to initiate a phone conversation.”

Creating a Business Case for Akkadian Contact Manager

After finding Akkadian Contact Manager to be the right solution, Dentons needed to put together a business case in order to move forward with acquiring the software.

The first step for the team was to show how adding Akkadian Contact Manager to Dentons’ communications system could save time.

“We had C-level people who could not find other C-level people through the native directory that was embedded within our Cisco Unified Communications platform. There was no way to look them up via the phone. Now, they can search via Akkadian Contact Manager and find anyone. Problem solved. Easy sell. Time is money,” said Nevins.

Implementing the Software Solution

Dentons started off with a free, 30-day trial of the software. Akkadian Labs sales and technical teams assisted with the trial setup and overall deployment.

“The software is fantastic, simple to install, configure and use,” said Nevins.

With a solid solution in place for Dentons unique business structure, Dentons is considering additional deployments of Akkadian Contact Manager in Canada.

Akkadian Console Case Study

Akkadian Console Case Study

Cisco VAR Finds Reliable UC Console for Its Busy Front Desk

As a value-added reseller (VAR) of Cisco Collaboration technology, Alexander Open Systems (AOS) uses Unified Communications in its own business operations. Cisco Unified Communications Manager forms the backbone of the company’s collaboration infrastructure. Incoming calls are handled by AOS’ busy front desk staff using attendant console software and a Windows-based PC.
Prior to 2014, the receptionists used a complimentary software provided with Cisco Unified Communications Manager to manage incoming calls. However, the receptionists felt they weren’t able to manage their workloads effectively because of this console software’s inefficiencies. Therefore, in 2014, the AOS internal IT team began looking for a new solution.

Receptionist Reports Old Console Distracted and Inhibited Productivity

AOS’ receptionist Stephanie Chaffee recalls both user experience and functionality issues with the original console that made it difficult for her to complete her duties. For one thing, she couldn’t be away from the front desk and answer a call. This became hindersome to Chaffee as she, like many front desk representatives, often move around the office during the day. Additionally, the receptionist found answering and transferring calls unnecessarily cumbersome. For example, an incoming call would appear in one field, but then prior to pick-up, the call moved to a new field. This caused the receptionist to perform extra dragging and dropping of lines with her mouse. Other features the team noticed lacking included the ability to change font size, as well as the ability to easily transfer to cell or home numbers.

Team Finds a Streamlined Console

Akkadian Console provides both features the front desk staff were searching for: streamlined call handling and flexible corporate directory software. For example, with Akkadian Console, home and cell numbers are part of the directory. Previously, the team was required to save these ancillary numbers as speed dials. This led to an overwhelming speed dial list with over 120 numbers. The team cut that number in half when they moved to Akkadian Console.

“Akkadian Labs truly understands how ease of access to number destination is important to the efficiency of a busy front desk phone system. Well done, Akkadian Labs,” Stephanie Chaffee, AOS, Receptionist.

Akkadian Console Is Intuitive and Flexible

It’s not a coincidence that Chaffee finds Akkadian Console intuitive to her busy receptionist role, or that over 500 companies use the software. Akkadian Labs designed the Akkadian Console to have a flexible yet intuitive interface that would leave users with little need for training. It’s not just the front office staff that found the console intuitive. The internal IT team for AOS was able to download the software directly from the Akkadian Labs site and setup in 15 minutes.
Moreover, Akkadian Console has continued to evolve since it was first introduced. Akkadian Labs offers multiple deployment options in addition to the original server-less Akkadian Console, which has over 5,000 licenses deployed. Akkadian Console is also available as a web or server deployment.

“The software is glitch-free. It’s a dream.” Stephanie Chaffee, AOS, Receptionist.

Phone swap

Upgrade to New Cisco IP Phones With Akkadian Phone Swap

Provisioning Cisco Collaboration gets even easier with phone swap tool

The mobile app from Akkadian Provisioning Manager is just one way the Cisco UC provisioning tool is helps UC admins save time. Released alongside phone swap, are the self-provisioning and license pools features.

What is CUCM Phone Swap

What is CUCM phone swap? Phone Swap app provides the ability to swap or copy configurations between almost any Cisco IP phone. For example, the Cisco IP 7900 series has reached end-of-life. Many organizations are replacing these phones with a newer model. Without Akkadian Provisioning Manager, this can be a tedious task of manually provisioning the new phone, re-associating the line to the device, and then the device to the user. But, Akkadian clients have an easier, smarter way. Akkadian Phone Swap allows you to simply select the source phone, enter a few details about the destination phone and you are done.

The next time-saving feature we’re happy to announce is self-provisioning. When your company has a new employee starting, simply provision the user using  a dummy mac address. When the new employee first arrives at his new desk, he can complete the provisioning process by entering his self-service ID on the phone and Akkadian Provisioning Manager will handle the rest.

License pool manager

Our third new benefit saves time and money by helping to more effectively manage licensing in Cisco Communications Manager. Akkadian Provisioning Manager already does a great job of associating end users to phones, but what about situation where phones are not associated to users? These could be common area phones or phones in retail or manufacturing locations. License pool manager help organizations by:

  • Automatically creating local licensr users in CUCM
  • Automatically assigning phones to these license users
  • Managing the ongoing process as phoned are deleted and added to the CUCM end user template being used

Try Akkadian Provisioning Manager risk-free by scheduling a customized demo.

Zero-touch Provisioning

Akkadian Labs Announces Akkadian Provisioning Manager™ New Features

New features designed to reduce administrative overhead

We’re constantly looking for ways to make Cisco Unified Communications Manager administrators’ lives easier, and we hope the latest release of Akkadian Provisioning Manager™ will do just that. The driving force behind the new features is to reduce Cisco Unified Communications Manager administrative overhead. We are proud to announce the following new features:

  • Enhanced REST API
  • DN pool management across multiple clusters
  • Bulk delete
  • Enhanced reporting with global search
  • Site templates

Enhanced REST API

We’ve introduced a web services API to allow companies wanting to integrate provisioning with a workflow management system. Now, programs like ServiceNow, Workday and PeopleSoft will kick-off the provisioning request, automating onboarding or off boarding employees.

DN pool management across multiple clusters

Directory number pool management for Cisco Unified Communications Manager allows you to search across multiple clusters and company sites, cutting time spent on provisioning new employees and giving even more flexibility to your team on how to manage your Cisco Collaboration environment.

Bulk delete

Another simple, time saving feature is the new bulk delete function. What if you have a crop of summer interns leaving to go back to school? The bulk delete function will allow you to decommission their devices in seconds.

Enhanced reporting with global search

Now, finding a needle in a haystack isn’t the challenge it once was. We’ve enhanced reporting so not only does it provide better information, but you can find almost anything using global search. In a matter of seconds, Akkadian Provisioning Manager can search by reporting data by name, directory number, MAC address, etc. and pinpoint the exact record in question.

Site templates

Finally, we’ve added a way for you to apply location-based settings using site templates. This helps reduce administrative overhead and quickly apply location specific settings using a simple drop-down menu.

Contact Center Agent Provisioning

Provision Cisco’s Unified Contact Center Express Agents With Ease

Save time provisioning Cisco’s Unified Communications and Collaboration

Provisioning agents for Cisco’s Unified Contact Center Express can be a very time consuming activity for VoIP engineers and IT administrators. Not only do users need to be created in Cisco’s Unified Communications Manager, but administrators need to create agents in Contact Center Express. Agents are the life line of call centers, so actions must be correct and precise. But, the added steps to an already time-consuming and complex process can culminate in mistakes. Imagine calling a business and receiving a busy signal while agents sit idle? A company’s ability to move agents in and out directly correlates to the company’s bottom line.

Luckily, there is a solution for companies using Cisco’s Collaboration technologies. Businesses can streamline the process and protect continuity of service by adopting akkadian Provisioning Manager Express as the tool for provisioning users, agents and devices within both Cisco’s Communications Manager, as well as Cisco’s Contact Center Express.

How akkadian Provisioning Manager Express works

From within the software’s easy-to-navigate interface, the administrator is able to manage Contact Center Express:

  • Create and enable extensions (both primary and for IPCC)
  • Create agents as well as their associations
  • Develop agents with their associated skill sets

1. Create and enable extensions

Without even accessing Cisco’s Unified Communications Manager or the Contact Center Express, the software allows you to enable directory number associations, including the primary extension and the IP Contact Center (IPCC) extension, simultaneously and all from one screen.

2. Create agents and associations

Further simplifying the provisioning process, the tool allows administrators the ability to assign application users to soft phones, as well as hard phones.

3. Assign agent skills

Finally, after creating and assigning extensions, akkadian Provisioning Manager Express allows administrators to create Contact Center Express agents and assign their skill sets.

With Akkadian Labs, administrators may assign:

  • Resource group
  • Skill set
  • Competence level
  • Team assignment
  • And more

It’s easy to get started with akkadian Provisioning Manager Express

renew software maintenance

3 Reasons to Renew Your Software Maintenance Agreement

Working for a software company, often I am asked to make a recommendation on the necessity of software maintenance agreements. I’ve seen the scenario many times. After signing the software licensing agreement and deploying the solution, the client is very happy with the software. Fast forward through one, trouble-free year and the client is starting to question the importance of the maintenance agreement. What are the advantages of software maintenance and benefits of the maintenance agreement? What are contract renewal best practices?

Software Maintenance Agreement Explained

Typically, an enterprise software maintenance agreement includes services, support and updates within a specified time frame (just like your Cisco support renew). Probably the most common way to license software is the perpetual model where the maintenance agreement is paid up-front. In this model, the license, theoretically, should run forever. But in the real world, things break down, trouble tickets will need to be opened, and once in a while, a little hand-holding is just what the doctor ordered. As long as you’re still within the time-frame covered by the maintenance agreement in the contract, the last sentence will be no problem for you.

Software vendors are unique in that they typically focus on developing a new product or two, while continuing to support and improve upon an already “generally available” or GA product. While a value added reseller (VAR) or system integrator (SI) partner is focused on consulting, designing and implementing an overall solution to meet a company’s business needs, the independent software vendor (ISV) is laser-focused on making great software that does a specific thing or two exceedingly well. Top VARs and SIs will always know who the best ISVs are, and will rely on them to provide value to their clients, who may be enduring a very specific pain that requires an immediate fix that will scale and continue to evolve as the complexity of their enterprise’s infrastructure matures with the market.

Top 3 reasons to renew

While it is completely understood to want to save your company money by skipping the upcoming annual maintenance renewal on that software you purchased last year from Cumquat Software Company (made-up name), I highly urge you to reconsider an annual software maintenance agreement, and here’s why.

1. You will need technical support.

No software solution is perfect, and the ability to open a trouble ticket with the folks who made and are most familiar with the software is critical. Consider the down time, the blind troubleshooting, and frustration that could result from not having an expert to lean on. Moreover, there is the time spent away from revenue-generating activities. Sometimes, the few dollars you put toward re-upping your maintenance contract will pay for itself upon the first opened ticket.

2. You will want to remain current.

Feature xyz may not have been in the version of the product you purchased 6 months ago, but it will be in the upcoming release scheduled for next week. As long as you have renewed your maintenance agreement, you should be able to upgrade easily to the new version. Now, you may leverage that new feature you’ve been waiting to see. You don’t want to fall behind the competition because you are manually performing a task that your current investment could perform for you, just because you couldn’t download the update.

3. You may want to reinstall on a rebuilt PC.

When your maintenance contract is current, you will be able to reinstall the purchased software, at the version you were running, or at the current version (which may be several releases ahead of where you were). There is flexibility there, and the choice is yours. If you didn’t renew your maintenance contract, you’re dead in the water; the license you wiped from your PC is no longer associated with a machine.

Are you taking advantage of your software maintenance agreement?

If you are a currently running Akkadian Labs software and you aren’t sure if your company’s maintenance agreement terms, reach out. We’ll let you know when your maintenance agreement ends, as well as if there are updates waiting for you.
